Kmart maternity leggings

June 4, 2015

When I was pregnant with Xavier I wore  maternity jeans and trousers, not so this pregnancy as yet.

I’ve been lazy and haven’t dug my jeans or trousers out of storage as yet!

Last pregnancy I had one pair of Kmart black maternity leggings that I loved to wear and continued to wear after pregnancy. I found the fit comfortable, they had the right amount of stretch and they didn’t feel tight on my tummy.  I remember being frustrated at work one day and much to the amusement of my co-workers I had to get out a pair of scissors and cut a regular pair of black tights as I just couldn’t bear the elastic on the tummy.  I really don’t know how I got away with just one pair last time!!!

I was pleased to see that Kmart still stocked these leggings 2 and 1/2 years later and I think they are even cheaper! At $9 they are a bargain. I bought up all the stock in Devonport and am on the hunt for my 5th pair.  I’m not sure if  my tummy has gotten bigger this pregnancy but I’ve found I’ve been wearing these tights since about 12 weeks.

Last pregnancy I wore fancy PJ’s in hospital but this time it’s going to be a pair of black tights and a black singlet and I’m already thinking I need to buy more for my hospital bag!

The leggings come in cropped and a long version – black colour – Bub2bub brand  $9.00

I have been hibernating for good reason….  I’m pregnant! *WOOT* *WOOT*

Such exciting news but it comes with one downfall.  Me and pregnancy just don’t mix. I’ve been suffering from all day sickness since day dot.  15 weeks later and I’m still suffering….  I’ve tried it all ginger, plain biscuits, fruit tingles and I had to resort to speaking to the Doc about getting something for it.  I was  so chuffed with picking up the prescription but the pharmacist scared me with what the tablets would do I’ve been too anxious to take them.  4 tablets for $40 they must be lifesavers !! Maybe next blog post I may of bitten the bullet-pill so to speak!

So much more to blog about now.  Pregnancy clothes, a new nursery to decorate, new clothes to buy.  And also more to talk about as Xavier turns the big 2 this weekend.

He’s so busy and so beautiful.

I’m hoping soon that I’ll start to feel myself again and start regularly blogging.

Bonds Luxe Singlets

February 5, 2015

I love the bonds press-stud suits they have been a staple for Xavier ever since he was a newborn.  When I purchased my first lot of 000 singlets before Xavier was born, Bonds had an option of a ‘luxe’  singlet suit  and  have repeatedly purchased them in every size since.  Bonds seem to launch the ‘luxe’ range which consists of a press-stud singlet, normal singlet, tee, long tee and tights once a season.  They usually come in a pattern with ‘love bonds’ along the seam.  The luxe range is made from bamboo and is softer and more snuggly than the normal range.

If you see the ‘luxe’ range I highly recommend that you stock up on sizes that you will need for a year as they seem to sell out fast.  Bonds have launched a ‘luxe’ range  for the last two years.  You can also find pieces in Myer but they are normally full-price and have limited stock.  I like to wait for the 40% off Bonds sale online with free shipping.   I love Bonds online service, its so handy when you have a small baby as Bonds ships really quickly and a great with a free return service. My normal order for each size is ‘6’ singlets for the smaller sizes (0000, 000 and 00) and once he hit daycare I ordered ‘7’, so I had a spare in his bag and the car/nappy-bag.

I will be very sad the day that Xavier outgrows the press-stud singlets. My baby is growing up way too fast. 🙁

I am also eagerly awaiting the luxe range for 2015, so I can stock up on the last size that they make (2)!

Bonds luxe range –

Luxe coveralls $24.95 (this is a mix of bamboo and the terry, different material to the singlets)

Minti Hidden Knee Trackpants

January 29, 2015

When I became pregnant I was a keen shopper for anything baby related and this especially meant fashion!!  I regularly talked to my sister-in-law about baby boy’s clothes as she had previously worked in a baby shop and knew the best brands.  One of my favourite brands  became Minti. I haven’t kept many newborn outfits but I did end up keeping my tiny Mini trackies and hoodie.  I’ve also purchases many items at the start of the new seasons.

I love Minti track pants! I love how soft they are, I wish they made an adults version!!!

Xav is nearly 19 month and I’ve had three pairs of hidden knee trackpants in various sizes. Every year they do a similar style but different detailing and colour ways.  I also have the shorts version which is cute.  My niece (9 years) also loves mini munster track pants, they look cute on both boys and girls.

Minti are good quality items with funky designs. Not your typical pale and pink baby fashions. 🙂

I previously purchased  Minti from a local Hobart store, but sadly they have closed down. I will purchase online from now.  A few online retailers do pre-orders and also over discount if you buy at the start of a season. I tend to stock up on boy clothes at the start of a season as they tend to sell out fast.

Minti – Hidden Knee Shorts – RRP $44.95 – on sale at Buckets and Spades Au for $29

Mess mat

January 18, 2015

Having a mess mat was not on my list of baby things to buy until we put Xav in the highchair.  He was a shocker in the high chair, everything went over board! Drink bottle, plate, food, bowl and unfortunately a china bowl from my good dinner set :(.   I was also so sick of having to mop our floorboards , but I was grateful that it wasn’t carpet. So the search began for a mess mat.

I can’t find the brand of my mess mat but it’s certainly been worth the money. I choose a black and white moustache design and the material is the machine washable plastic. I’m glad I paid a bit extra for a better quality as it looks as good as new and is constantly being machine washed.  I also use it for play dough, painting or a picnic on the floor.  It’s never stained and allot of spaghetti, raspberries and strawberry juice has been dropped on it.  After meal time we shake off the mat over the deck, the birds love his food scraps.

If ever I was going to buy another mess mat I have decided the bigger the better. I should of taken my sister-in-law’s advice on this!

There are plenty of machine washable mess mats on etsy that you can have made to size and colour.  I think they are much better quality than some of the ones you see in large chain stores.

Books – Goodnight Moon

January 14, 2015

Xav is a bookworm he loves books. Ever since he could roll on his back he’d love to read a book with it propped between his feet.  We like to call it ‘Xav’s bookstand’. We have many photos and videos of him in this position and I’m afraid he doesn’t do it as often now that he’s older.

Last Christmas I ordered a few books from Book Depository and one of them being Goodnight Moon. I did some reading on Amazon and clearly this book has been a favourite for many, many years. I ordered the board book version as I find them studier and easier for little chubby hands to turn the pages.

When first looking at Goodnight moon it doesn’t look as pretty and colourful as other books but don’t be put off by the black and white pictures. Xav loves the story and the pictures, he’s always pointing to the moon or the kittens and I often tell him the story while I’m changing him. It’s one of the only things that works at change time!  We have had the book over a year now and it’s still a strong favourite. As soon as he sees the cover he lets out a chuckle.

I like to support small business but unfortunately  it’s sometimes hard to find the books I want and in the ‘board’ format so  I tend to order online.  Book Depository ships from the UK.  It’s pretty easy and has free shipping. The only problem is the mail is SLOW so order at least 4 weeks out to meet any Birthdays or celebrations.  I’m already starting to search for Easter books now!

Lollacup – A straw cup for babies and toddlers

January 10, 2015

I taught Xavier from an early age how to drink from a straw. I looked up several tutorials on the internet about how to teach babies to drink from a straw. We practiced with a small amount of water in a straw and my finger covering the bottom. As he get more confident I  increased the amount of water.  I nearly gave up, but I continued every meal time and over a course of weeks it finally happened! He also liked to watch me drink from the straw.

After he had progressed to a straw cup I began research on what cup to buy.  I found a website that sold ‘Lollacup’. It seemed to meet all my requirements. It was cute, came in great colours, had a weighted straw, looked easy to clean, tough, BPA free,  but the only downfall it wasn’t available in Australia!!! DOH!  I ended up purchasing two lollacups as the postage wasn’t that expensive and they arrived quickly.

Xavier really loved these cups and the ladies at childcare also thought they were great!  For what seemed forever but was a period months Xavier would ‘clear the decks’ on his high chair table.  This meanteverything got thrown on the ground including the ‘lollacup’.  They survived several months of torture both at home and childcare.  They are still going strong and are the only cup we use. I did purchase another two as I wanted to try some different colours.

You can buy Lollacup here.

Playgro Click Bitz Review

June 26, 2014

It’s been a little while since my last review, Xavier got sick and then we had a birthday and an overload of toys.

I pulled out the Playgro click bitz for him to play with today. Xavier was fascinated by them, bright colours, plastic, easy to hold in his chubby hands and good to have a chew on.  He isn’t strong enough to pull and click them but in a few months time he will have the hang of it.

I like how there are 12 pieces and you can form long chains. He was happy enough dragging them around the floor.

We played counting games with them, placing them in a container and then he would have fun at the end tipping the container upside down.  He never gets tired of this game!

A great toy, I would say he is still a little young but in 2 months it will be perfect for him.

4 gold stars out of 5.

Pikelets for fussy babies

June 12, 2014

We have a super fussy babe at the moment.  Meal times are becoming difficult. Breakfast is one of the hardest.  He is moving off pouch porridges, doesn’t like kids weetbix  and seems to throw toast at the floor. ARG.. fussy babe!!!

I got a packet of pikelets from Woolies and he loved them.  I can hand them to him and he’d chow a couple down no problems. The packet does’t go far as the Hubby loves a pikelet too.  After buying a few packets the Hubby decided to made some.

They are super easy and we store them in a zip lock bag in the fridge once they have cooled. They aren’t as sugary as the supermarket ones, which is a good thing but for my sweet tooth baby they were getting thrown on the ground until I put some spread or Nutella on them! What ever works…  We did tone down the sugar in them even though it only had a 1 TBS.

I also read that you can freeze them too, so I’m planning on doing a double batch the weekend and freezing in batches of two.

Cauliflower Soup

June 11, 2014

Xavier loves cauliflower soup, he has loved it since we got him started on solids. One of his favourite foods is the Bellamy’s Cauliflower, corn and cheese pouches.  We still give him one of these pouches if he is being fussy.

I love to make soups in winter and I made a really yummy cauliflower soup which he enjoyed as well.  It’s a Rockpool recipe that was created for Qantas Business Class.

We didn’t add as much salt as the recipe stated and put in the mustard and cheese as needed.

Delicious cheap and super yummy.

Rockpool cauliflower soup

Rockpool cauliflower soup

Rockpool’s Cream of Cauliflower Soup with Parmesan
  • 15g peeled fresh garlic cloves
  • 150g peeled brown onion, halved
  • 25g olive oil
  • 25g unsalted butter
  • 12g sea salt
  • Freshly ground white pepper, to taste
  • 800g cauliflower florets, roughly chopped
  • 900ml fresh chicken stock (I used vegetable stock but 900g of water with 2 tbsp TMX stock is fine too)
  • 50g single (pouring) cream
  • 15g Dijon mustard, approximately
  • 50g parmesan cheese, finely grated (approximately)
  1. Place garlic cloves and onion in TMX bowl and blitz on Speed 6 for 5 seconds.
  2. Add oil, butter, salt and pepper to TMX bowl and sauté for 3 minutes on 100C, Speed 1.
  3. Add cauliflower and cook for another 6 minutes on 100C, Speed 1 until florets are soft and golden (the browning of the cauliflower is essential for the flavour of this soup).
  4. Add stock and cook for 10 minutes on 100C, Speed 1. Place MC over the hole and process soup on Speed 9 for 10 seconds or until very smooth.
  5. Stir in cream and half of the mustard and cheese and cook for another minute on 80C, Speed 1.
  6. If desired, add remaining mustard and cheese if the flavour is not strong enough. If soup is too thick, add more stock to give the desired consistency.
